And Now Some News From Emily's Non-political Life

Still looking for a house. Boo NoVa (northern virginia) real estate market. Investors planning on flipping who undercut families who just want to buy a house are evil. Also, if the bank forecloses on you, chances are it is your fault not the bank's. So, it would be much appreciated if you quit stripping out everything (appliances, fixtures, switch plates, vanities, mirrors, baseboards, toilets, door knobs, etc.) in an effort to screw the bank. All you are really doing is screwing your used to be neighbors because that house is now worth half of what it was and now their property value sucks.

i have more sewing projects than I have time. I guess that isn't a bad thing, it must mean people like the stuff I make. Someday I will not have a job and I will be able to stay at home a make clothes for Daphne all day....or take care of children, whatev. But before that can happen we need to find a house, see above.

Daphne is as spoiled as ever. She has become slightly obsessed with rawhide chewtoys and gets mad when we take them away. Brandon is trying to teach her to play dead, she doesn't like having to lay still, but she is starting to catch on. We took her to the hotel with us for our 1st year anniversary, so spoiled.Daphne at Helix

And that is pretty much it for what is going on in my life outside of eating, breathing, sleeping, watching politics 24/7. Yes, I'm lame. Informed, but lame. I really need to find a job that will put my compulsive need to watch the news for political information/read blogs with political rantings/tweet the latest way Obama's trying to screw us/update facebook with news the mainstream media won't report, to use.

If anyone knows of this type of job I can be reached on twitter 24/7.

Moving on Over to Astroturfing

The following is text from a MoveOn.org asking people to post the Will Ferrell pro-Obama care video on their facebook and twitter statuses. They were even so kind as to tell you exactly what to re-tweet.

I've got one question for you, who are the Astroturfers now?

I have the email if you would like me to forward it to you. I thought text would be more helpful than just screen shots. I took out the name of the original person this was sent to for his privacy.

Dear MoveOn member,

Earlier today, we sent you a funny video featuring Will Ferrell talking
about the plight of insurance company executives--the "real" victims in
the health care fight.

The video is catching FIRE! Already over 600,000 people have seen it, and
it's on the verge of going truly viral. Can you help make sure it does by
posting this as your status on Facebook, with a link to the video?

No health insurance company should have to lose one cent of their billions
in profits just because sick Americans need health care. If you agree with
Will Ferrell, please post this as your status for a
day: http://bit.ly/kNKpA

You probably saw a couple weeks ago when a similar--but serious--status
update went viral on Facebook. Let's make it happen again, this time using
the power of snark to continue to spread the word about how crucial health
care reform is.

And watch the video if you haven't yet! It's pretty darn funny, if we do
say so ourselves. ;)

--Kat, Laura, Stephen, Marika, and the rest of the team

P.S. If you're on Twitter, can you tweet this, too?

super-rich health insurance executives: http://bit.ly/sW8uN #sickofit

Twitter and Facebook are down!?!?

Now what am I supposed to do all day?!

I am slightly prone to conspiracy theories, but this has hints of a DOS attack.

Other people seem to think so too.

It seems like everyone took the day off work today too. Prepare for massive boredom.

Hrmm, maybe I will just blog today.

6 Months Out...

So here I am, 6 months out from the start of my marriage, move to DC, and start of a new job. If you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be living in Washington DC, working at a law firm, and spending more money on fabric than clothes, I would have said you were crazy. But here I am, a Midwestern Transplant and a Hostage Hoosier in the limestone and concrete world of DC. Being right in the middle of the political center of our country has made me acutely aware of how out of touch with the real world DC is.

The values I have been brought up on have shaped me into a strong character with a biting sarcastic humor that enjoys pointing out everything that is wrong in the world. This has worked both for and against me. I have learned how to control it so that it makes people want listen to what I say, even if they disagree.

My sheer frustration with the direction of this country has spurred me to inform everyone around me of what is going on. I see people around me, walking around in a dream world of American prosperity and the way things are is going to be the way things will always be, and it scares me. People do not pay attention to the news or financial markets because they have never had to, because in my generation, things have always been good. Those in power are using this sense of security to quietly strip our freedom away.

I have gotten an immensely positive response from my posts to Facebook. I have become the go-to girl for a lot of people on a wide range of topics. I never expected to have that kind of impact, but I am glad people think enough of my opinion to read and take into account my point of view on things. So at the encouragement from several close friends, I have decided to start a blog. It could be good, bad, or ugly, but we will see where it takes me.

Don't be surprised if I post something ripping a politician and immediately switch gears and start talking about my latest sewing adventure. My life centers on about 5 things, the Bible, politics, sewing, Brandon, and a little black and white terror known as Daphne. My mind is constantly overflowing with ideas on everything from projects to politics, opinions to overlooked ideas, and doggies and dogmas...welcome to my mind, you're in a for ride.
